UTV releases bollywood movie exclusively online
UTV has tied up with three Indian portals, namely Bigflicks.com, Rajshri.com and Indyaondemand.com to release Vikram Bhatt directed movie “Fear” only online through the Internet on 10th of August 2007. This has never been done before, and is indeed a bold move and a gamble whose results may strengthen the way forward for a new distribution channel (specifically for budget films produced by Indies and the smaller studios). Once can already pay to download many Bollywood films online from $9.99 to $14.99 , but this is the first time a Bollywood film is being released only online with no theatrical release. Another movie called Blue Umbrella is also being released by UTV on the same day - but simultaneously in theatres across India and online.
