Reliance launches BigAdda.com - claims 100,000 members

Reliance Entertainment has made its move into the desi social networking + blogging + media sharing space with www.bigadda.com. They plan to spend Rs 5 crores to Rs 6 crores for marketing within 2 to 3 months, targetting Internet, Radio, TV and Outdoor media. The site went into Alpha stage in early May 2007 and since then has claimed to have over 100,000 registered members. Reliance Entertainment, President Rajesh Sawhney has told exchange4media that - “We have entered into social networking after considering three basic issues. Firstly, we always wanted a youth centric business considering India’s huge youth demography. Secondly, the broadband phenomenon in India will kick off in the next three years owing to a surge in the media sharing platform. And finally, we always wanted to have an advertising driven business and this creates a wonderful opportunity for the same.” Reliance is tagetting to grow to 10 million members within one year.
